FCTC Director – Collegiate
I grew up in the land of Downunder, where triathlon was as normal for us Aussies as football, baseball and basketball is for Americans growing up. I was a typical Sheila, playing outside, living in “The Shire”, which is the home of triathlon in Australia. I met my husband at a race 25 years ago, and made the mistake of letting him race on our wedding day, since then I have been heavily involved in the sport of triathlon to the point now that it is my full time job.
I became a coach many years ago and formed a youth triathlon team that grew into the largest youth team in the USA with over 175 kids aged 5 to 15, which I still love coaching for. I also became an Official and Head Referee for triathlon, which has taught me so much about our sport and our athletes.
I have two sons that love the sport with a passion, I gave up racing to let them both follow their dreams and I enjoy supporting them with whatever decisions they make in our sport. I have lost count of the number of triathlons I have, in some caliber, attended, but my guess it is close to 1000 races.
Currently my main role in our sport is that of a Race Director, I have helped put on the USAT World Qualifiers, ITU PANAM Elite Cups, Elite Development Races, Youth F1 races, CAMTRI Elite Championships as well as the NCAA Nationals. I have also just introduced Draft Legal Youth racing to American kids, to match what the rest of the World who have been doing this for many years.
I am the USAT Collegiate Director for Florida and partner with my husband who is the Head Coach for Collegiate schools in Florida. Together we are supporting and building the sport of triathlon in colleges and hope one day that our sport is available to all Florida colleges and students.
