Hello Paratriathletes and Coaches,

Motivational Quote of the Month:  – “The tragedy in life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach.” – Benjamin E. Mays

Many athletes throughout their journey within any endurance sports have found many downfalls within their training such as overtraining, under-training, structure, in their training plan, purpose and depression. Preparing the mind for excellent performance helps all athletes. Athletes spend countless hours preparing your body for race day, but often leave the mind out of the training equation. Most elite athletes would argue that mental preparation plays a huge role in determining success or failure.
No matter how ready the body is for an event, without mental resolve, your performance is going to suffer. When the mind, quits then body soon follows. Likewise, when the body is trashed near the end of a race, athletes can help overcome some of the physical pain with mental training techniques. An important aspect for a paratriathlete is setting goals in the beginning of the season and obtaining those goals at the end of the season. Many athletes begin their season with no goal in mind or even some register for races without knowing what outcome to expect at the end. There are many factors that come into play when athletes are setting goals, such as achieving their PB (Personal Best) in a specific race. Therefore, the important factor of setting Goals and analyzing the power that goal setting falls into play within the athlete.
In conclusion, one of the best feelings an athlete will have is when their mind is empty and you are totally immersed in the moment. The mental side of competition separates a champion from an also-ran. The athlete should practice mental preparation just as seriously as you practice our physical preparation. Schedule time for it. It might provide you with more gains than any other training that is what this study is for.
